An installation presented at The Terminal KYOTO during the exhibition “FUZAI — Absence”,
curated by Shinshinsya and Hatch Inc., held from September 24 (Wed) to October 13 (Mon), 2025.
Inside an underground air-raid shelter beneath a vast machiya townhouse, incense tubes themed around “forms of prayer”
were installed alongside a video work by a visual artist depicting the afterimages of a traveler’s tree across the four cardinal directions,
accompanied by resonant soundscapes composed by a musician.
The space was filled with the scent of camellia, and the rising smoke connected symbolically to photographs displayed on the upper floor,
weaving a quiet dialogue between fragrance, image, and memory.

The Terminal KYOTOで2025年9月24日（水）～10月13日（月）にかけて開催された晨辰社、
株式会社 Hatchキュレーションによるエキシビジョン不在─FUZAIでのインスタレーション。
広大な町屋の中にある地下防空壕の中に、映像作家による東西南北に残像を描くタビビトノキの映像と
音楽家による残響音で構成された作品と共に、いのりのかたちをテーマとした香筒を配置。
空間を椿の香で満たし、立ち昇る煙は上階の写真へと繋がっていく。

不在─FUZAI

旅とは、新しい場所へ向かうことであると同時に、
これまでいた場所から離れることでもあります。
それは地理的な移動に限らず、人生の歩みや時間の
流れもまた旅といえるでしょう。
そして、その背後には必ず不在が生まれます。

不在は、単なる欠如ではありません。
むしろ、私たちが在ることを強く意識させる
契機となります。
成長や変化の中で振り返ると、かつての場所や時間が
確かにそこに在ったと気づくように。

あらゆるものは移ろい、とどまることはできません。
人生という旅の途上で生まれる不在は、その無常を
映し出します。

だからこそ、私たちはこの刹那に
確かさを見いだすのではないでしょうか。

FUZAI – Absence
Travel is not only about moving to a new place, but also about leaving behind the places we have been.
This journey is not limited to geographical movement; the course of life and the passage of time can also be seen as a form of travel.
And behind it, absence inevitably arises.
Absence is not merely a lack.
Rather, it becomes an occasion that makes us acutely aware of our own presence.
Looking back amid growth and change, we realize that the places and moments we once occupied truly existed.
Everything is transient; nothing remains still.
The absences that arise along the journey of life reflect this impermanence.
It is precisely for this reason that we may seek certainty in the fleeting present.
